A Dystopian Future

After Ridley Scott directed the original, Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Arrival, Sicario) is taking up the mantle this time around while Scott serves as an Executive Producer. Villeneuve assures fans that the movie will be much simpler, more brutal and less noisy and audacious than before. The original Blade Runner was a dark and gritty neo-noir science fiction film, but, the sequel promises to be even darker than the original. Guaranteeing a grittier vision of the future in an effort to magnify the dystopic futurism, this edition has us waiting frantically.

A still from the original Blade Runner (1982)

When the original film released in 1982, it failed to win over audiences and critics alike. It was years later that the movie received its due and became a cult hit, generating a massive fan following and was touted as a masterpiece. It will be interesting to see how Blade Runner 2049 affects the franchise, which finally wakes up after 35 years of hypersleep.

With a cast filled with the likes of Ford, Gosling, Leto, James Olmos, Wright, etc., the movie is sure to dazzle the audience with pure performance and excellent direction. The story, however, is another matter entirely as both the cast & crew have been tight-lipped while commenting on the script.

What legacy this dystopian future leaves behind will be determined on the 6th of October, 2017, as the film opens in theatres worldwide. The movie will release in 2D, 3D and IMAX formats.
