Kareena Kapoor – I Don’t Think Nepotism Exists. *Silent Facepalm*

Kareena Kapoor Khan says, “I Don’t Think Nepotism Exists.” I say: “Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man!

Kareena Kapoor Khan firmly believes that, contrary to popular belief and unrefutable evidence, Bollywood doesn’t suffer from the sickness called Nepotism

There are many superstars from yesteryears and not all of their children are superstars. If nepotism exists everyone would have been superstars and number one. But the fact that today Ranveer Singh, (who) does not have mother or father who is a superstar, out of sheer talent and hard work he is where he is today. I don’t think nepotism exists.

It is about talent, we may be children or grandchildren of somebody but once you are on the silver screen you are that part. When you have generations of actors and a huge legacy behind you, it is actually difficult for a star child to live up to it and succeed in this industry.

So, what Mrs. Khan is saying is that there is no favouritism or monopoly that certain producers/directors/production houses hold over the industry. Is it, really? They don’t? When did Bollywood become so responsible?

This debate over nepotism in Bollywood is as old as Bollywood itself. I’m not going to go down that road. We all know what the truth is. While it is true that star kids face a lot more scrutiny than non-star kids, they also get picked a lot more than their counterparts.

Why does Rajkummar Rao still struggle in the Industry even after proving his worth over and over again? He’s a terrific actor, better than most Kapoors and Khans anyway! Why then, is Tiger Shroff or Varun Dhawan chosen over him?

You know the answer as well as I.

While making a Bollywood film, what are the necessary things required for it to be a success? Acting? Direction? Content? All of the above? NO! What is actually required is a bankable superstar or his son/daughter. Things like acting, original content or a good script are not pre-requisites for making a good Bollywood movie.
What happens when you assign a task to someone who doesn’t know how to do it? Simple – they fail miserably.
The rampant nepotism which is prevalent in Bollywood is as shameful as it is unethical. What else explains the likes of Shraddha Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Tiger Shroff getting film after film even though they’ve done nothing to prove their worth? Actors with zero knowledge in acting become superstars overnight only because they are the son/daughter of famous B-Town celebrities. Varun Dhawan, Sonam Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Tiger Shroff, Athiya Shetty, Sooraj Pancholi, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt – how many of these star-kids actually know about the art that is cinema?
On the other hand, the actors in Bollywood who do not have the privilege of being a star-kid have a dangerous road ahead of them; they struggle over and over again to get that big break in Bollywood. As a star-kid, you have several opportunities to prove your worth, but, the same cannot be said of people with no family tree in Bollywood. Ask yourself – how long did it take for Irrfan Khan or Nawazuddin Siddiqui to earn their reputation as ‘a serious performer who knows how to act’? Years.
Unfortunately, big production houses would rather cast Sonakshi Sinha than Richa Chadha or other talented actresses only because Sonakshi happens to be the daughter of the legendary Shatrughan ‘Khamosh’ Sinha.
